Advice for new students

The best piece of advice I can give after taking this class is simply to pay attention and try to be present at every class since it is really about hands-on learning. You can learn a lot and have fun in this class if you keep up. At first I was not so sure how I would do in this class because I am not very technology-oriented. I was surprised at how much I learned though. The skills that I learned in this class will be useful for future classes, jobs (it's great to be able to add proficiency in Microsoft office, Photoshop, and Expression Web to your resume), or any new assignments or ideas needed for clubs or anything else you can think of! As long as you stay on top of your work and don't procrastinate, this class will help you learn so much.

Websites

I really enjoyed looking at the websites everyone has made and the ones that were presented in class. I know that we all put a lot of work into them, and they turned out to be worth the effort. I especially liked Emily's website because it was arranged really well: her animations were eye-catching but not distracting, her colors worked well together, and she told us about interesting things she likes to do. I also liked Landes' website because she used an image map for her navigation bar, which looked really nice. Finally, I think that Brittni's website has a really good design. Each of her pages are differently designed but visually pleasing as she also used color well. Please visit my website at: http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~mtariq.

HTML code

There are many reasons for web designers to know the basics of HTML code, but the main reason can be applied to any process: you have to know the basics and get a good grasp on the subject before you can advance further. It is important for web designers to know HTML code so they can go in and manually edit their pages in case the programs cannot access specific parts that need to be fixed. Also, relying on these programs can be problematic because they might not work with the type of website you want to create or simply malfunction. Without knowing the basics of HTML code, the website might not look as professional as a website that is made with the knowledge of both the website creation software and the ways that HTML functions. It could be harder to edit or fix in case something goes wrong.

Powerful Presentations

I saw a number of impressive Powerpoint presentations in the last couple days of class which taught me about different majors and what kinds of things people would like to pursue. Leann's presentation about marketing and advertising was interesting; I did not know about the variety of career options in that field or the specific techniques used in advertising. Her design was simple but clear, so it did not become overwhelming with the incorporation of the photos she used to explain her points. I also liked the video that she incorporated into her presentation. She placed it at the end of the presentation, which I thought was really effective because it made her presentation memorable.

Ellie's presentation about Henry Guerra and communication also sticks out in my mind because I did not know about his impact on San Antonio. Adding a personal element to her presentation made it unique and she was very enthusiastic about her topic. The links she provided were also informative and her layout was appealing. She also ended on a memorable note by Henry Guerra's signature signoff.
